On March 14, 2010, the Global Islamic Media Front – one of several prominent online entities which perform essential media and logistical tasks on behalf of the mujahideen around the world, including Al-Qaida – posted a letter from Usama Bin Laden’s son, Khalid, addressed to Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran. In the letter, he confirms that members of the Bin Ladin family “were forced to enter Iran through unofficial means” after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. He alleges that “they requested a number of times to leave Iran, only to be beaten and silenced.” He pleads for their release, asserting that the “hardships experienced by our families in the prisons and detention centers…has led to the spread of emotional and psychological disorders amongst the women and children.”
