Statement of Congratulations on Shabaab’s Oath of Allegiance (al-Bay’aat) to Al Qaida

On February 23, 2012, the Office of Politics and Provinces of Shabaab al-Mujahideen issued a statement of congratulations to the Muslim community on the “glad tiding of allegiance by al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement to Qaida’t al-Jihad.” The statement offered “special thanks to our Amir, Shaykh Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri…on his efforts in unifying the armies of the Ummah under one banner.” The statement called on other Muslims to join the unified jihadist “ranks,” asserting that “the only way to get rid of the enemies of Allah and their empowerment and injustice in our time is jihad for the cause of Allah.”
