On May 2, 2010, an audiotape – with images – featuring Tehrik‐e‐Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader Qari Hussain Mehsud was released on YouTube. In the message, Mehsud claimed that the TTP “take full responsibility for the recent attack in the USA.” Mehsud asserted that the bomb plot was “revenge for the great & valuable martyred leaders of Mujahideen i.e., Baitullah Mehsud” and Abu Umer Al Baghdadi, as well as the “the recent rain of drone attacks in the tribal areas.” Press reports indicate Mehsud met indicted bomber Faisal Shahzad, who has allegedly admitted receiving explosives training in Waziristan and was purportedly seeking revenge for U.S. drone strikes.
