On January 12, 2012, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban) issued a statement “regarding the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.” The communication noted that the “the Islamic Emirate is utilizing its political wing alongside its military presence and Jihad in order to realize the national and Islamic aspirations of the nation and its martyrs.” The statement further requested that “all the officials of the media outlets…work within the framework of unbiased journalistic ethics, avoid circulating baseless and one-sided reports and only publish that which is confirmed by relevant sources.”
